Lausanne, Switzerland – On Tuesday the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland announced that a new sport will be added in the 2028 Summer Olympics. The president of the IOC Kirsty Coventry moved to the next Powerpoint slide. She said, “It will be pickleball.” All the committee members stood up and screamed, maybe in excitement, maybe in disbelief. Coventry went on to describe her plan for this to be the first sport that appears in both the summer and winter Olympics. She said, “We can never have enough pickleball.” The goal is to have winter pickleball be on the ice with players wearing skates while summer pickleball is just normal pickleball. Coventry stated that the most exciting part about the introduction of pickleball into the Olympics is the average age of the players being 85. She said, “Seniors are a very underrepresented group in the Olympics and we’re now trying to change that.” She noted, to relieve any worries, that surgeons will be on standby for immediate hip replacements. The USA team has already been drafted. It is a retirement home in Clearwater, Florida.
