Why Students Need Phones in School: “Let Them Have TikTok”

Article

The debate of whether or not to have phones in school has been on the minds of many parents and students over the past few months. There actually is a clear better side of the debate (according to me). That is to give students all the phones they want in school. It doesn’t matter if they get distracted; who needs school   nowadays? (refer to our article “Why AI Should Replace Thinking” to learn more about why children don’t need to learn anymore). Teachers should have to deal   with children with little to no attention span scrolling through social media in the middle of class when class hasn’t even started yet. Why should students have  to watch educational movies or videos in English class? When the movie goes on it is the time for the teacher to pass out on their desk and for us to go look at the latest internet news, we need to get mad about.

Some people have argued against removing phones from school as students won’t have the internet to verify information for accuracy. With the internet to verify information, students can “double-check” that they have all the right answers on their schoolwork. This is especially helpful when the teacher falls asleep in the middle of proctoring a test. Students can just pull out their phones and ““double-check”” their answers, verifying information.

Another debated point is that adults have phones in the workplace, so why shouldn’t students also have them in a similar environment? This is especially true as   we know ten year old gen alpha children are just as mature as an adult surviving on minimum wage. We even tested this hypothesis. We put a ten-year-old and     an adult with severe ADHD who has never seen a phone before in a room with a phone right in front of them. The adult even picked up the phone a minute before the child did, proving there is no difference in maturity.

As these are all valid arguments, even though I don’t know who said them or where they’ve come from, I would highly suggest letting children have phones in school. It might not be good for their mental health but that is one of the very few minor cons of having phones. I say, “If they don’t have developed brains, let them have TikTok!”
